Mark Twain on War   18 y
"Statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception." -- Mark Twain, Chronicle of Young Satan

”Man is the only animal that deals in that atrocity of atrocities, War. He is the only one that gathers his brethren about him and goes forth in cold blood and calm pulse to exterminate his kind. He is the only animal that for sordid wages will march out… and help to slaughter strangers of his own species who have done him no harm and with whom he has no quarrel… And in the intervals between campaigns he washes the blood off his hands and works for ’the universal brotherhood of man’ -- with his mouth.” -- Mark Twain, What Is Man   visit the page

Albert Einstein on war   18 y
"He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable loce-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder." -- Albert Einstein

Help your peace-loving child avoid the draft:   18 y
Keep a conscientious objector file for your child. Remember: Becoming a conscientious objector doesn't require that your child be a strict pacifist, nor does it require a belief in God: "If the draft is reinstated, under existing regulations a young conscript wanting to claim CO status will need to prove that he has a 'sincere' objection to all wars.… His belief … must be religious, moral, or ethical, not political or pragmatic."

Help your peace-loving child avoid the draft: don’t wait until he’s 18 to document his opposition to war. Record it now Mothering, Jan-Feb, 2005 by Helen James Find More Results for: ”Mothering (Jan.-Feb. 2005) ” ON THE EVE OF THE GULF WAR, while I was marching for peace with hundreds of other protestors, I spotted a familiar mop of shiny red hair down low in the crowd. Sure enough, it belonged to my then nine-year-old son, Adam. I hadn’t encouraged him to take up the polities of adulthood, but he and his buddies had convinced another parent to take them to the rally. We joined forc ...   read more

Noam Chomsky-War Monger?   18 y
I am begining to believe that Noam Chomsky is pro-war. He is for a draft and let's face it, without a draft, war mongers can not get enough conscripts to sacrafice their lives through voluntary servitude so they must force men into involuntary servitude(slavery). Freedom and liberty are on the brink of extinction in the world today and with Chomsky's approval, America may be ready to force their children to fight other men's children in nuclear battlefields with depleted uranium munitions, tactical nukes, chemical and biological weapons to keep a bunch of oil men and elitists happy. Noam Chomsky should admit he is wrong and if he does not then he should be considered an enemy of peace. The punishment from the intellectual community should be to turn their back on Noam Chomsky. Fascism is exposing its ugly head in the intellectual community today and history will record the words of those who supported dictators and their slave armies from those who stood for freedom.

Weekend Edition March 19 / 20, 2005 A Draft By Any Other Name...Is Still Wrong Exposing the Coming Draft By TOM REEVES Articles in CounterPunch and elsewhere recently have given opposite views on whether the return of the draft is likely--and even whether a draft should be opposed at all. Noam Chomsky (Feb. 2) takes the strong pro-draft stand: ”I have always favored a draft,” he has said. Jacob Levich did a good job (Feb. 4) of decimating Chomsky’s a-historical assertion that colonial wars have never been waged successfully with conscripts--always with professional armies and merc ...   read more

A former soldier   18 y
I am not a Muslim and can only speak from the Judeo-Christian outlook. As a former soldier, I was told by the very people who are creating the wars today, that the goal of the Untited States(England) and Israel was to destabilize every Muslim nation through the acts of murder called assasanation and destruction of infrastructure...even if it meant faking attacks disguised as Muslims. I thought that was great stuff when I was a young kid who believed everything I was told...but I met God one day...and when I returned from that meeting...I realized that no war is a holy war... I no longer desired to kill anyone. Once you know this and let it sink into your psyche, it changes everything. I quit being a soldier that day...and soon afterward left the army.

I am not saying every attack on Muslims was perpetuated by an Israeli, an American, or a Brit. I know very well that there are the same ilk of people on the other side of every war for our hearts and minds. I was told by the string pullers that the media is the critical area of control for focusing the attention of the public away from exposing these assasanation and destabilization operations and instead steer the public’s eyes toward negative portrayals of the enemy. The men who taught me this were ugly old men with P.H.D.’s and they were very smart and I was very young. There are just a ...   read more

John Haynes Holmes, A Statement to my People on the Eve of the War (3rd April, 1917) When hostilities begin, it is universally assumed that there is but a single service which a loyal citizen can render to the state: that of bearing arms and killing the enemy. Will you understand me if I say, humbly and regretfully, that this I cannot, and will not, do. When, therefore, there comes a call for volunteers, I shall have to refuse to heed. When there is an enrollment of citizens for military purposes, I shall have to refuse to register. When, or if, the system of conscription is adopted, I ...   read more

Pacifists Are Terrorists, Says Homeland Security   18 y
Through a Freedom of Informaton Act request, the ACLU has discovered that the FBI has been sending spies to snoop on the activities of an organization in Pittsburgh, for no other reason than the political views of that organization. The ACLU has obtained files in which FBI agents report their espionage on the legal activities of the Thomas Merton Center.

What do these documents say about why the FBI was the spying on the Thomas Merton Center? The FBI agents justified their spying against law-abiding Americans by saying that the Thomas Merton Center was a pacifist organization that might have links to terrorism. A pacifist organization with links to terrorism? Pacifism is the dedication to nonviolence. Terrorism is the use of violence to achieve political goals. How could a pacifist organization be involved in terrorism? Ah, but I’m forgetting. This is Homeland Security we’re talking about. Under Homeland Security, we don’t have to ma ...   read more

Israeli refuseniks oppose war on Lebanon Submitted by David Bloom on Sat, 07/22/2006 - 01:26. On July 21, Israeli reserve officer Yonatan Shapira, a helicopter pilot and signer of the pilots’ letter refusing to perform assassinations in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories, spoke out against Israel’s attack on Lebanon on Democracy Now! The following quote is part of a debate between Shapira and a member of what Democracy Now! oddly refers to as Israel’s ”peace party,” Meretz. Only one of six members of the Knesset from Meretz has expressed opposition to Israel’s attack on Leban ...   read more

Army war objector plans to go to base   18 y
SEATTLE - Shortly after returning from Iraq last year, Army Sgt. Ricky Clousing gathered a few belongings and sneaked out of Fort Bragg, leaving only a note quoting Martin Luther King.

After six months spent seeing the ”daily physical, psychological and emotional harassment of civilians,” the 24-year-old said he was confused and disenchanted with the United States’ role in the war. On Friday, he said he planned to turn himself over to authorities at Fort Lewis, south of Seattle. He declined to say when, but his attorneys said it would happen Friday afternoon. ”I stand here before you today about to surrender myself, which was always my intention,” Clousing told several dozen friends, family members and war veterans who gathered at the University of Washington campu ...   read more

War & Religion   18 y
Although I consider myself to have absolute faith in a God who is love, I find many of my fellow believers have fallen into a bait and switch trap that has a basic premise that if you believe in God then you must believe in war to protect those beliefs. For me, this is false logic and contradicts my belief that God is love. A God who is love does not murder innocent women and children sleeping in their beds whose only crime is to be born in a nation that is in a war. -Rudi Rarely if ever is religion the major cause of war, but it is often a critical factor. Faith serves primarily to legitimate, motivate, and increase intensities, whether it is promoting or protesting war. From earliest wars of conquest to colonial wars and contemporary ethnic conflicts, religion is at the core of war making. Although opposition to war comes from many sources, religious traditions provide the most potent and persistent antiwar movements. here have been tyrants, and murderers, and for a time they c

From Encyclopedia of Politics and Religion, ed. Robert Wuthnow. 2 vols. (Washington, D.C.: Congressional Quarterly, Inc., 1998), 783-789. War War is a state of hostility, conflict, or antagonism between peoples and is usually defined as armed conflict between two or more governments or states. Religion and warfare are ancient partners that remain inextricably bound. Virtually every war in human history was supported by at least one religious institution, as were movements of opposition to warfare. The widespread peace movements of the twentieth century were largely initiated and nur ...   read more

The Origin of Freemasonry: The Crusaders & Templars by Harun Yahya The common perception of the majority of historians of Freemasonry is that the origin of the organization goes back to the Crusades. In fact, though Masonry was only officially established and recognized in England in the early eighteenth century, the roots of the organization do reach back to the Crusades in the twelfth century. At the center of this familiar tale is an order of crusaders called the Knights Templar or the Templars. No matter how much some may insist that the Crusades were military expeditions carr ...   read more

Gandhi:Medicine Refusenik   18 y
Mahatma Gandhi was a blessing sent from the heavens. His lessons have not been quite understood by the major part of mankind. Some considered him a reactionary, who would refuse the use of medicine in the treatment of illnesses.

This quatrain refers to Mahatma Gandhi, the greatest pacifist leader greater of the 20th Century and certainly the greatest pacifist leader of all the times. MOHANDAS KARAMCHAND GANDHI was born on 02/10/1869, in Porbandar, a small city in the west coast of India. From a middle class family of of the Vaishuya chaste - his grandfather and afterwards his father, Karamchand, had been prime ministers of Portbandar.
