Korean Poetry and Images 13 y
Stunning photographs accompany Korean poetry by leading poet Koh Jung-hee (translated to English).
Photographed by J.P. Song
For the Bruised Souls by Koh Jung-hee
Translated by Chae-Pyong Song and Anne Rashid
Under the sky even the bruised reed
shakes freely for one season—
if a tree is deeply rooted
even if the trunk is sawed off, new buds sprout.
The bruised souls, let us shake fully,
let us suffer, shaking fully.
Even the floating weed that moves without root,
it will bloom, where water collects around it.
Like everywhere in the world a brook will run,
like everywhere in the world a lamp will get lit.
Let us go, sufferin ... read more

Inspired by my journey in January 2010 to Zimbabwe to work with Mandaza Kandemwa and Michael Ortiz Hill, Water Spirit Initiation. This drawing depicts Mambokadzi, the Queen of the Shona people of Zimbabwe. She is also Queen of the Earth and nature. I think of Her as the Creator of the Tree of Life.**

Medicinal White Sage 13 y
Native Americans have long used sacred white sage in ceremony and as medicine. I use it for medicinal purposes in water and in tea.

I had a healing with Chumash medicine woman Cecilia Garcia http://www.chumashmedicinewoman.com/
June 3, 2011 and she told me to put one sage leaf in my drinking water per day and another sage leaf every night for tea.
Sacred White Sage used as medicine connects a person to Spirit, helps to heal whatever needs healing be it mental, emotional, physical or spiritual, and helps whatever medication or supplements you’re taking to work more effectively. Sage tea, drunk one hour before bedtim ... read more

I try to make each refrigerator magnet with the Three R’s in mind: Recycle, Reduce, Reuse. Each magnet is handmade with re-used and found materials from my own home or close by. The only materials I purchase are the non-toxic glues and the magnets.
The bottle caps, jar lids, and plastic container lids come from organic juices, organic foods, and vitamin supplements used by my family (The glass bottles and plastic containers are recycled or ... read more

Three minute prize-winning video
”This summer, Philips and director/producer Ridley Scott launched a global filmmaking competition dubbed ’Tell It Your Way’ following its Cannes Lions award-winning short-film project ’Parallel Lines.’ The entrants were given freedom of expression and could take up any theme they wanted.
There were two strict rules—
The dialogue could be precisely six-lines (as it was in the ‘Parallel Lines’ films), and entries could not exceed three minutes.
Here’s the prize-winning entry in Philips’ ’Tell It Your Way’ competition. Easy to see how it impressed and touched the judges.”

Becoming Peaceful Change
Spring has arrived in all her glory. After much rainfall during the winter months, the coastal community where I live is alive with vibrant shades of green, purples, pinks, and yellows. I sit on my patio overlooking the quiet little canyon in Laguna Beach where I live and I feel peaceful. The giant cottonwood rustles as the breeze tickles her branches and the air is filled with bird songs and wind chimes. Peace.
It is these moments that I want to imprint on ... read more

”The Zulu word Shosholoza means go forward or make way for the next man, and is also reminiscent of the sound made by the steam train (stimela) described in the song.”

CAN YOU HEAR THE DOLPHINS CRY? BY LIVE, LEAD SINGER ED KOWALCZYK 1999 Album: The Distance to Here
Songwriters: ED KOWALCZYK, CHAD TAYLOR, PATRICK DAHLHEIMER, CHAD GRACEY
The way you’re bathed in light
Reminds me of that night
God laid me down into your rose garden of trust
And I was swept away
With nothin’ left to say
Some helpless fool
Yeah I was lost in a swoon of peace
You’re all I need to find
So when the time is right
Come to me sweetly, come to me
Come to me
Love will lead us, alright

Chumash Medicine Woman 13 y
Today I am walking around with a bandana on my head, filled with all kinds of Native California plant leaves, that I made yesterday at a healing workshop with Cecilia Garcia, the last Chumash medicine woman. I slept with it under my pillow all night--very fragrant! Mugwort leaves are supposed to help integrate the left and right brain. When I put the bandana over my heart I cry. Think I'm gonna get a healing from this woman.
Last night I drank a cup of white sage tea that I brewed--it was funny as after I drank it I laid in bed with my heart hammering and wondered if I’d just poisoned myself (ridiculous, but that’s what went through my head!)--it’s supposed to RELAX you and help you sleep. So, I laid there and laid there and then BOOM! I fell asleep without warning and slept for 6 hours straight without moving an iota from the position I was in (excellent for me, as I usually toss and turn all night and wake up on and off) before I woke up and had to pee! I don’t even remember falling asleep! Tonight I’m go ... read more

Walking for Water
Highlighting threats to our water, Indigenous people carry water from four corners of the continent to Lake Superior
by Faye Brown
To mark the one year anniversary of the disastrous BP oil spill, a small group of Indigenous women, elders and youth gathered at sunrise on April 20 in Gulfport, Mississippi and began walking more than 1,430 miles north to Lake Superior in Wisconsin. Carrying a pail of salt water from the Gulf of Mexico, they will ... read more
Art:Yom HaShoah 13 y
Today is Yom HaShoah, also known as Holocaust Remembrance Day. The holiday occurs every year on the 27th of Nissan in the Hebrew calendar. Shoah, which means catastrophe or utter destruction in Hebrew, refers to the atrocities that were committed against the Jewish people during World War II. On this day, I remember those who died in the Shoah, and I honor my Ancestors.
“Chava, The Forgotten One”
watercolor 11” X 14” created by Mayah July 2010
Going to bed at 12:30 A.M. on the morning of July 23, 2010, I suddenly had the impulse to draw. Getting out the drawing pad, sitting on my bed, I had no idea what was going to come out if my pencil. Out came the image of this young woman, broken window in the background, mournful look on her face, homemade Jewish star patch on her shoulder (The Nazi’s forced Jews to wear a Star of David patch on their arms, to identify themselves as being Jews). She lived in Eastern Europe and died in the camps during WWII ... read more

2Penguin Videos! 13 y
The first video is a cute little penguin at the zoo. The second video is shot by tourists watching as orcas surround a penguin, perhaps meaning to make a meal of him/her, or perhaps not! Watch what happens! P.S. I really appreciate orcas, and think their name "killer whales" lends an air of undeserved malevolence to a magnificent Being!
Cookie the Little Penguin at the Cincinatti Zoo
Very Happy Gentoo Penguin!
I found a shorter version of this video on youtube; the poster says ”Penguin jumps into boat to escape Killer Whales. I have been in contact with the guy who was driving the boat. He said the whales were just playing with it and training a younger member of the pod and that they could have taken it at anytime. He also said they were never in any danger from the whales. And I did NOT ADD THE (annoying) MUSIC!” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EBwqbqZ3L60
