Blog: Breaking free from chains of my past

What is dis-ease?

from here, we can tackle different therapies(i'm still learning), in particular fasting. this topic may need greater subtopics as the understanding of disease is a very profound subject.

Let me start out with the definition.

Definition: a lack of health.

Having corrected the definition of health as a wholesomeness of our being, the lack of wholesomeness would lead to a depressed state of our being. The smallest living unit in our body is a cell. A group of cells of the same function form organs. Different organs of the same purpose form a system. Different sytems in our body co-operate to form us. Now when I mean depressed state, it implies that from the starting of the chain of "what we are"--cells--is functioning poorly. Obviously, the rest of the chain is affected.

Let me expand further from this train of thought. If we contract a disease--a physical, emotional manisfestion as a result of an unhealthy body--how should we re-achieve optimum homeostatic balance/health? Do we take away the manisfestion or the root cause? I believe the answer is found in Question 1, but it becomes clearer now how the answer is deduced.

What causes these cells to function poorly?

Genetics(nature)+ LED(nurture)-->stress(mental, emotional, physical, spiritual, psychological assualt)-->toxin-->poisonous to cells-->altered behaviour and function of cell-->deteriorating organs-->malfunctioning system-->harm spreads to other systems(due to interdpendence of systems in our bodies)--> disease

While in the past, sanitation was a big problem, this is no longer a risk factor in an increasingly modernized world. LED factors are individual choices. In essence, if you fall sick, it was not because you were unlucky to have "caught" the illness, but obversely, you worked hard to "earn" it.

Blame the bacteria, virus, protozoans? Think again.

I am not here to play down scientific identification and speculation of recent revelation of lethal viruses that wiped out a huge number of victims in diseases like SARS, Avian Flu, Madcow disease. Being in the medical field, I understand the reason for the sounding of alarms. However I have to clarify and present concerns about the aforementioned topics before I answer the question about pathogens and diseases.

Clarifications and concern:
1. Humans are not superior to any other species that inhabit this planet. The intelligence of other organisms may not be elucidated by test scores, wealth or power, but they are ingenious in a similar way as humans are--a powerful ability to adapt to almost any change (not a sudden catastrophic change ) in the organism's environment( Darwin's theory of survival of the fittest), becuase of the innate survival instinct of all creatures. What this means is that if an organism detects a change in the environment, to survive, its cells will rewire certain connections and communications within themselves and among themselves. Of paramount importance, the DNA, the "coding instructor" of the cell, tweaks to produce the necessary resources for the survival of the organism. Point: Instead of scorning these minute creatures, respect and fear them--they are not to be underestimated.

With the appreciation of this fact, the resilience of say the SARS, Avian flu(H5N1, H5Nx, x=other strains), mad cow disease(BSE)etc--attributed by survival remodelling-- "keeps the organisms alive". Their improved state--which we are unfamiliar with physiologically--then presents us a deadly threat.

2. It is a huge irony, in fact, to have to spell this in words. Yes, organisms are intelligent in the adaptive machines. Yes, they may pose as threats. Yes, we ought to worry. But the correct question is, what is causing them to adapt?

When I say an "alteration of environment", I actually mean the environment we have created for ourselves, and indirectly these creatures which we co-exist with. Unlike our nomadic forefathers, we build cities, invent technologies, consume unnatural food and an assortment of drugs and medications(that previously mentioned are an "aid to delay death not prevent it"), and adpot unhealthy lifestyles. The chemicals we introduce to our environment, some of which, allow pathogens to thrive. The exposure to multiple drugs, coupled with bad lifestyles, weaken our bodies, instead of protecting and strengthening. Finally, the heady rush of city life, means we will tend to stay put in the same area. The conclusion, we live unconsciously and vulnerably with adapting and proliferating pathogens--side-by-side.

Point: We ought to re-consider what valuable life "enhancement"s really is. To be blatant, even the car that works by combustion of hydrocabons, pollute, enter your body, ages you quickly and eventually kills you.

3. I am appalled by the ignorance of many, including people in the medical field, regarding bacteria, virus and protozoa. While there is much more to imbibe, let me present the basic concepts of biology and medicine.

As mentioned above, we live in "co-existence" with other organisms on this planet--some good, some bad. In biology, there are 3 primary symbiotic (A close, prolonged association between two or more different organisms of different species that may, but does not necessarily, benefit each member. Grk: sumbion=live together, bios=life) relationships between organisms and ecosystems:

1. mutualistic--A symbiotic relationship in which both species benefit.
2. parasitic-- symbiotis relationship in which one organism grows, feeds and find shelter in the host, which is harmed.
3. commensalism-- A symbiotic relationship between two organisms of different species in which one derives some benefit while the other is unaffected.

Fact:

1. All viruses are parasitic
2. All protozao are parasitic
3. Bacteria can be mutualistic or parasitic or involved in commensalism. ie. Our gut contains an ecosystem of bacteria that maintains our digestive function.

4. My greastest concern is the pervasiveness and subjectivity of the media. The conundrum of the media is that it is able to feed off desires, fears and ignorance of the target population. The danger this poses is that possibility of mis-information that the layman is left to construe, when the barrage of different interpretations are sufficiently confounding.

Back to the question. Blame the bacteria, virus, protozoa? Think again.

This is very complicated subject that will require my further reading. The following will not be easy to swallow for those who are taught conventionally of what health and right living is.

2 modes of disease-casing pathogens:

1. external ie. H5N1, antibiotic resistant strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa
2. internal ie. microbes that live in our gut

Subjects I will address:
1. Immune system and pathogens
2. How pH changes in tissue are harmful
3. Fallacies of the Germ Theory, proposed by Louise Pasteur

PS: will be updated along the way. Feel free to comment.

Here are some facts that may surprise you.
# " Louis Pasteur, on his deathbed, rejected his work against microbes by stating that the environment that hosts microbes is the problem, not the microbes."

# "The idea of eradicating microbes like salmonella is ludicrous because they are ubiquitous. At University of Utah John R. Roth, Professor of biology, has studied salmonella for 40 years. "[Salmonella] is mostly reported as a pathogen but...[lives beneficially] as part of the gut flora." He believes that the idea of banishing it is absurd. "Salmonella is distributed pretty widely," he says. "Sometimes it makes a mistake and gets across the gut wall...This is an irritation at the gut wall...Symptoms can range from a loose stool to more flu-like symptoms."

# "The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and the Arkansas Children's Hospital did a recent study of 50 Arkansas homes where infected children lived. They found salmonella-concentrations in 38% of the homes; on doorsteps, vacuum cleaners, the refrigerator, and a pet lizard. (Richmond Times Dispatch, July 19, 1999; Salmonella Bacteria Often Lurks Close By.)"

# "Rick Berman, Executive Director, Guest Choice Network, Washington D.C. said, "For nearly three decades, [CDC] has been whipping up fear over food while remaining virtually unchallenged by the press or the scientific community. By generating more heat than light, [CDC] helps create fear...over...food products."

# "I have witnessed approximately 34 cases from these so-called risk-groups in which an amount of bacterial rich, aged (rotten) raw food was consumed and successfully utilized to regain health of bowels, digestion, liver and glands, and in many cases to reverse disease...." The Chinese, using rotten eggs, and the Eskimo, using rotten raw fish were cultures that successfully used high-bacteria food as remedies and disease-prevention."
