How long did you fast?
29 days
When did you fast?
January 5-February 3, 2004
What is your age, gender, weight before your fast, and height?
68, Female, 5'2", 125 lbs
What was your weight after completing the fast? What is your weight now?
101 lbs/103 lbs
Why did you decide to fast?
To clear up asthma (10 years) and psoriasis (since age 12). Also to lose weight.
What was your biggest apprehension going into the fast?
Finding the time to do it.
Did you ever consider ending the fast during the process? Why and why did you continue or stop?
No, I was fully committed.
Did you accomplish what you set out to do with your fast?
Yes. I have more healing to do - asthma gone, breathing much improved. Psoriasis much less active.
Would you recommend that people have their fasts supervised? Why or why not?
"Es lo unico". The support is critical.
Why did you choose to fast at the Tanglewood Wellness Center?
Meeting Loren at Vegetarian Summerfest 2003.
What was your experience at the TWC like?
Not a word I throw around - it has been "transformational".
What did you experience during the fast?
No hunger, a bit of appetite, much increased mental clarity.
How did you spend your time?
Rested, but not as much as recommended. Classical music and NPR news, read five novels and some non-fiction, wrote letters.
Just purified water? Did you get hungry?
No.
Did you get weak?
Two or three times when I pushed too much - spent the following day mostly in bed.
What was the best part of the process for you?
Having the fast go easily. The care and support of the staff. The interesting and varied connection I made with other clients. The meditation was a very meaningful part of my experience. I have the foundations of a practice now.
What was the most difficult part of the process for you?
Not sleeping well, but I learned how to effectively cope.
Was it ever painful?
No, some discomfort, abdominal distress. The last few days of fasting I had a very metallic taste in my mouth with excess saliva (too much of it). The first two days I ate I was really very weak, shaky, and weird feeling at night but it didn't last too long.
What did you experience after the fast?
Elation - feel fit (legs a bit weak), eager to take what has happened.
Did you experience any changes due to fasting?
Yes, I htink I have covered them already.
What kind of diet did you follow after your fast?
Dr. Tim's suggestions.
Was eating difficult afterwards?
No, enjoying it, but not really hungry so going easy.
Would you fast again?
Absolutely.
What piece of advice would you give to other fasters?
Go into it with an open heart and an accepting mind. Stay committed.
Additional comments:
The staff couldn't have met our needs further. They are warm, caring, supportive, and people of quality intelligence and their satisfaction in this way of life is evident. Many thanks and much appreciation and love to Loren, Dr. Tim, Kim Kimiko and Ake - you are all in my heart now.
One more: The comments on the website are, for me, too vague and feel-good. I would like to see people explain their specific results, especially those who healed from specific problems. If I had not met Loren, I would not have come here.
How could your experience at the Tanglewood Wellness Center be improved?
I could have fasted one more week. Tim and Loren asked me to continue 2 more days as I was having the healing criss - but then needed to eat in order to go home on time.
