Hey Brandon,

I took a two-year 'round the world surf trip about seven years ago. I got violently ill with parasites and dysentery in Indonesia and almost died. Since then my gut, and health in general, have been a mess.

Testing. I've done every test you can possibly imagine. What I've learned from this is that there's no better test than our own personal experience. If you're gut is screwed up and you're not digesting your food correctly, it doesn't really matter what the tests say - you need to do something about it. And no matter what the cause (parasites, candida, IBS, whatever), I believe the treatment is the same: some combination of the BED or Nourishing Traditions diet, rest, exercise and some kind of nervous system support.

Accupuncture can be very helpful in settling the nervous system and putting the body into the relaxed state in which healing occurs. Don't worry too much about the meridians and the philosophy behind it... just give it a try and trust what your intuition tells you. If you don't experience any relief and you think it's %¤#&!§-, then it's not going to be worthwhile for you - no matter what other people say. As far as the herbs... I think most of them are pretty hard to digest, especially for folks like us.

You might want to check out a book called "Patient, Heal Thyself" by Jordan Rubin (founder of Garden of Life supplements). It's a pretty shameless promotion for his products, and he uses a lot of examples from the Bible (doesn't bother me, but some folks are turned off by this)... but don't let that turn you away from the wonderful information in the book. It's very similar to BED but I think more sustainable and well-rounded.

Maybe I'll write a book about all this sometime ;> At least the thousands of dollars and countless hours of experimentation and research wouldn't have been in vain...

Where the hell do you surf in Georgia? That is what GA stands for, isn't it?

Good luck and be well,
Chris
