For those who are using Praziquantel, if you are aware of its mechanisms of action, you also know that it has a very short half-life (1.5-2 hrs max) and needs to be re-dosed every 6 hours depending on the literature used.
It has been found (or common knowledge to those who are aware of grape fruit and its mechanisms on the CYP450 liver metabolism) that although it does not decrease the half-life (making it stay longer in body),
BUT it increases the plasma bio-availability, meaning more of the drug will will become suitable and used, so for those who think they have brain flukes or some hard to reach areas, this is a good thing. The present study used 250mL of fresh grapefruit juice, so I would say take one big grapefruit, juice it and drink 10 minutes before doses.
"The results of the present study showed that grapefruit juice increased the praziquantel concentration in plasma in most subjects. The mean Cmax increased 160%, and the AUC increased 190%."
WOW!
