The body is very sensitive to aluminum contamination which has some links to Parkinson's and Alzheimer's as well as to other conditions.

I would absolutely avoid using aluminum as an electrode.

Copper has been used for years with few problems. However, I would always wrap the copper in a wet WHITE paper towel and use salt water for better conductivity.
