Re: OCD and bowel cleanses
I do not have OCD, but I have been diagnosed with Clinical
Depression and have been off and on antidepressants, mostly SSRIs for years. I have found that many cleanses including liver flushing, Master Cleanse and other fasts, and colon cleansing may increase
Depression for a short period, however, once the episode is over, the conditions improve.
Serotonin is produced in the colon. A clean and functioning colon will produce more of this vital neurotransmitter and help even out mood swings, depressive episodes and anxiety attacks.
I believe that colon cleansing will help level many forms of
Depression and anxiety situations and help and individual stay on a more even keel. If OCD is affected by Serotonin levels, then there is a strong possibility that colon cleaning will produce some positive results, although there may be some rough spots at the onset of cleansing. This is more from my experience than any scientific research, but it is the best I can offer.
