Re: Humaworm for pets

I'll be interested to see what RG says -- I started the puppy we found (at probably 4 weeks of age) on Humaworm for Pets and he did fine. I learned here and from the vet I talked to that puppies are/can be born with worms from their mother in utero...my sense or guess from the combination of those facts is that you could use it on your mom dog...

Our puppy is finally roundworm-free...poor guy -- he was just chock full of them. Of course this provided for many really revolting moments for me, but ones that were absolutely convincing in terms of believing in the existence of parasites! And he has had a huge growth spurt in the last week or so, coincident with the passing of the final worms...I really think they were stunting his growth a lot.

If you are planning on giving your pups away at 6 weeks, I found a great recipe for young puppies' formula, which is

raw goat milk
egg yolk
when they can tolerate it, you can mix in puppy kibble or meat.

Our little one was just wiped out and we fed him the milk/egg yolk from an eyedropper (with the Humaworm mixed in) for a couple of weeks. Then I would puree some meat into the liquid. He is now eating some meat with his milk/egg mix, and is doing really well.

I do plan on doing another round for all pets/humans in a couple of weeks to be on the safe side. But after the experience with this puppy and those enormous spaghetti-sized worms, I'd err on the deworming them side rather than not, and I also believe that unless the mom was worm-free in her pregnancy that she may have transmitted them to the pups.

The guy at the site who posted this recipe cautioned that cow milk is not good for their stomachs, by the way.
