Dogs eating grass

Does any one know why dogs eat grass. I hate it when they do that because it upsets there stomach, and they end up having diarea all over, or puking. I didn't catch him eating grass, and had pooped all over the place the next day, at night and most of the next day. Finally gave him some Dr Schulze #2 and it settled him down.
