Husband having a o.b. - also very "down."

My husband is having an outbreak right now - it's his second one this month, which is RARE. He usually only has o.b.'s 3 - 4 times a year, max. But he just went through a VERY stressful week at work when his most recent o.b. had ended. Just last week, his schedule returned to normal, and last night, another o.b. made itself evident. I figure it's from the stress. (Plus, he overworked his back a few days ago mowing the lawn, so I suspect this may have also contributed to this new o.b.) He told me today he feels very "down" and sort of depressed (not seriously depressed, just mildly.)

Do o.b.'s tend to create depression, or is the other way around? He also just had a birthday recently, and he said that may have to do with the reason he's feeling a little in the dumps.

As usual when he's having an o.b., I get out additional supplements for him: L-lysine, astragalus, extra vitamin C. Are there other supplements that can be helpful? I'm a little worried about this back-to-back o.b., because it hasn't happened as long as we've been together (over 10 years now).

Any advice, information, or tips would be greatly appreciated.
