period or kidney problem!? SCARED!
Hi ladies....I posted this on the Ask Curezone forum too, but i copied it and pasted it here too just in case i might get some extra help here too....thanks!
Hi everyone,
I am 49 yr.s old, and perimenopausal, with PLENTY of peri symptoms! But, I kind of freaked out when I began to realize the other day, that I'd been taking approx. one to two sets of Benadryl a day, for about 8 mos. now, for my sinus problem. And actaully before that, I was taking Sudafed, before they took it off the market.
when i was taking the sudafed though, I didn't take it as often as the benadyl, i took it maybe twice or three times a week. But, this last winter, when most of my perimenopause symptoms hit me hard, my sinus went nuts along with my hormones, and i started taking Benadyl Severe Sinus and Allergy pills, they have 325mg. of acet. in each pill. Now, I would try to only take one set, but there were many days, that i had to take two sets! Which was 4 pills in a 24 hr. period, now, yes, I certainly didn't exceed the maximum doseage on the box for a 24hr. period, but I took it almost everyday for 8 mos. UNTIL the other day, when for some reason, I just sort of had a "revelation" I guess you could call it, and looked up acet. affects. Well, then I panicked! Now, since then, I've been researching a lot. Ive seen other people who are HEAVY users of this stuff, thousands of mgs. a day, and yet are still alive! OK, also, what about people who suffer from arthritis, you know they take that EVERYDAY for long term use as well....in fact, an article said that those people unfortunatley have to choose if they can live with the pain, or take the RISK of taking the acet. for the pain! I read another article (see, when I get started reading these things on the net, it's good and bad, bec. then I get frightened, and start to think I have some kind of liver or kidney probelm), where they said that if you just took ONE EXTRA STRENGTH tylenol PER DAY, that your chances of developing kidney and liver failure went up by 50 percent! HOLY COW! I mean, I took mor than that per day! OK, so I'm trying to calm down here.....
NOw, here comes the fun part......I got my period yesterday. Since I'm in perimenopause, my period is always changing from month to month now, and some months its ok, other months, the aches and cramps and bleeding can be bad! Well, naturally, THIS MONTH, right now, it's BAD! Now, last night, my lower back was fine....UNTIL, I laid on my left side, propped myself up on my elbow to talk to my son who came into my room. Within a few min.s of our conversation, my lower left back, below the waist, right next to the spine started to ache, and made me feel "sick". It felt "sick" in there as well, and queasy. So, I figured it would go away, and it didn't. I am sitting here still with this. My husband says it's not my kidney, because it's to low, and I dont have a fever, but i did have chills, which they had said on this sight was one of the signs of a kidney infection, along with many other signs i DONT have...i had something VERY VERY SIMILAR to this, back in May of '06, pretty much the same thing, but that was after I had a UTI, and it turned out to be only muscular pain back there, not the kidney. But, at that time, I wasn't really taking all that acet. either! So, you see the connection?
Now, I'm panicking because of course, i'm thinking that the ache i feel in the lower left back, is kidney failure from the acet.!!!!! It's crazy too, because even my own sister, who has a million things wrong with her, takes all sorts of heavy duty pain killers and pres. drugs from her dr., and that's got to go through the kidney and liver too.....and yet, she doens't seem to have a problem, and she's been on these drugs for YEARS! I'm not saying it can't develop, I'm just saying, that here i am PANICKING over acet. that I've taken for about a year and a half (maybe a little more), when there are people out there, who are taking much more heavy duty pain killers or drugs, and are still ok. Not to say that sooner or later, it'll catch up with them, hopefully not, dear God...but I realize it can.
When I press on that "spot" where it aches, it doesn't really hurt, nor the area around it either. But, earilier this morn. when i pressed on it, it kind of felt a deep ache in there, but thta was it. My husband has reminded me of what happ. that last May in '06, and how exactly similar this is, and that if this were a kidney infectin, or failure, I'D KNOW! yet, i read on a med. site, that you can have the beginning stages of kidney or liver damage, and have very little symptoms. One thing I did notice, was the diff. between actual kidney FAILURE and infection, was the pain factor. Apparently, if you have an infection, it'll hurt to touch the area...and it doesn't.
I just hope this is from my period! If anyone can get back to me on this ASAP, i sure would appreciate it,....in the meantime, I'm sitting here, PANICKYING!
thank you all!
