given enough of the right minerals and balance thereof, through a high quality diet that includes "complexed" healthy fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, a human body will manufacture all of its needed enzymes and vitamins, with the possible exception of vitamin C, AND support a healthy digestive flora.
Given this, I believe that minerals are of first importance. Your observation on vitamins being the mega ingredients in supplements is a great awakening and awareness.
I agree with Invincible; you will not get what you need from a tablet or supplement alone. That said, some supplement manufacturers are getting a little smarter in understanding this and there are products such as AdvaCal now; however even this "pill" is calcium centric and lacking in other necessary minerals.
