"Too bad they have been co-opted by profit-hungry Big Pharma and subscribe to mainstream medicine's failed approach of treating cancer symptoms instead of treating underlying conditions that caused the cancer."
A major focus of the cited article is _prevention_ - for example, discouraging smoking, which causes lung, bladder and other cancers.
Other examples of prevention include mammography, Pap tests and colonoscopy, which organizations like the American Cancer Society promote because they can detect precancers and pre-invasive cancers which can be removed and cured without further treatment. At the same time this denies revenue to oncologists, Big Pharma etc. who would otherwise make money from expensive cancer treatments.
Doesn't the ACS know it's supposed to be in league with Big Pharma? It's all so confusing!!!
