Re: Water vs Juice Fast
Hi!
Check out this website:
http://starthealthylife.com/page266.htm and scroll down to "Less Rigorous than Water Fasts". This is a good place to start.
So, for the differences, some say water is best, others say juice is best. It really depends on what your goals are. Water is the quickest and most effective, but juicing can be equally as effective, just in a longer time frame. For instance, 7 days on water can accomplish the detox results of 14 days on juice. And to reiterate, which is better also depends on your goals. For instance, if you want rapid weight loss, you could do a raw food diet or a low carb one, and wouldn't have to fast. But if you want to address a particular health or emotional condition, while losing weight, then fasting is, some say, the optimal way.
More concrete differences is, juice fasting (aside from the Master Cleanse) can get expensive. If you buy a bag of carrots and a bag of apples, you could easily use them up in a day or maybe even two days. Juicing fruits and vegetables removes their fiber, and so you're left with just a little juice. However, if you can afford it, juicing is said to be more powerful than water fasting because of all the antioxidants and nutrients you're provided. Water fasters say that your body, through detoxing, breaks down stored nutrients and you're not deficient.
Another difference is calories. On water fasting, you consume no calories, and your energy needs are gained through surviving off of stored energy (glycogen initially, then fat) and from decomposed toxins. On a juice diet, you may consume low calories, but your body is sufficiently supported by the carbs/calories/other nutrients.
Lastly, my initial fasting experience was the Master Cleanse. It was a great experience for me as I'd never fasted before. I later switched to water fasting (this is my first) b/c the sugars in the maple syrup and from fruits do not help to eliminate my candida. This is a main reason I'm water fasting, to finally eliminate candida, achieve digestive health, and weight loss/emotional health.
