Tis the season, by MH

BEETS are ready in the gardens! Some people like them, while many can do with out. They are very starchy and need cooked/pickeled to make them eatable for most people's taste. They can be juiced leaves and all and have a huge white topping of pure starch floating in the glass.

Anything purple and eatable can't be all bad.

My sister's dog last year eat a bunch of the leaves that were discarded and it's urine looked bloody, not knowing the dog had eaten the beet leaves...She took the dog to the vet to learn nothing was wrong. The urine was actually more purple than red. Most things with the color purple have allot of potassium another reason to try fresh beets.

The Mulberries are ready all summer and everyone that knows about black birds and Mulberries knows they poop purple all summer.
