They've done a good job. They even have the Christians beleiving in this phoney 1000 year fantasy. The 1000 year story dates pre-Egyptian. Its NOT Christian or even Jewish for that matter. To paraphrase Hitler "A big lie is easier to sell to the public than the truth". People will believe a big lie easier than any truth.
I think Sutter covered that in his "Next five years" article.
