exfoliating to remove marks?

i've been searching the internet a lot about stretch mark removal and many people suggest exfoliating but there is a certain technique to it. like your supposed to scrub in a certain way or something..i don't know i was hoping somebody might have a clue about the proper techniques? if anybody does please let me know the big secret! thanks a bunch!
