Mercola's article: If we are to thrive as a society, encourage your kids to read, read often, and discuss what's been read to encourage free and independent thought.
When I was teaching, it ALWAYS disappointed and shocked me how many students HATED to read. This is not just a problem with our schools; this is a reflection on the HOME. How do we help our children develop a love of reading? We READ to them. We read to them before they're born, when they're cradled in our arm, and when they sit on our laps. Later we let them read to us from books and articles that interest them. We talk with them and learn about their interests. Staying connected, we develop their respect.
