EDIT Update: Scar removal
My friend had started painting her cosmetic surgery scars a couple weeks ago with
Lugol solution. After applying it the first time it was burning and got irritated. She applied it again three days later. The next couple days it got more irritated and then peeled in the next couple days. She waited a full week before paiting again since it made her skin sensitive and peely.
Well, this past Friday she used coconut oil very sparingly first and then applied the iodine. No irritation! She applied again Saturday, Sunday and Monday and today. Her scars are MUCH better already. They were hypertrophic and are flattening out quite visibly already. Also, the tissue next to the original incisions has been a little bumpy looking from splitting stiches and is smoothing out nicely. I couldnt believe the improvement since last week. The coconut oil seems to prevent irritation and is moisturizing so she can apply it daily now.
BTW the scars are one year old, so that might help too. However, the Retin A she applied for six months (docs RX) previous to the
Iodine barely did anything however.
EDIT
As of Wednesday she was actually able to put the Luols on straight without coconut oil underneath. Looks the skin is getting used to it and no lasting redness/irritation or severe peeling anymore. She now waits at least an hour before putting on a bit of oil just to moisturize after the
Iodine sunk in.
