I definitely agree with you and shadowalker that there will never be a magic bullet discovered to cure alcoholism. It just don't work that way. However, I definitely think there is a physical aspect to alcoholism that goes beyond the spiritual one. That is why studies have shown that alcoholism/addiction tends to run in families. Just because no one in your family has ever been an alcoholic does not mean you won't be one however. There are definitely many variables involved. To me, I think one day (probably within 25 years) they will come up with something physical to take or do to your body to greatly reduce alcoholism and relapse rates. I am convinced of that. That won't mean, however, that it will be foolproof or that organizations such as AA can fold up shop. But the rates of alcoholism and relapse will go down dramatically, IMHO.
