She was a type A who was in such constant pain by her need to excel that she covered most of her body several times a day for weeks on end to accomplish such a feat.
In twenty years there has been no death due to this.
Personally, I'm more concerned by what was driving her rabid need to excel?
The warning label on BenGay products instructs users to "stop use and ask a doctor if conditions worsens or symptoms persist for more than seven days, symptoms clear up and occur again within a few days or
if excessive skin irritation occurs."
Back in February and March she was taken to Doctors for what were, after the fact, symptoms of methyl salicylate overdose. She was given an inhaler for asthma and later skin cream for the skin irritation.
Both allowed her to continue the BenGay while diminishing the overdose symptoms.
So what does her Mother say?
"I still can't believe it," she said."I am scrupulous about my children's health. I did not think an over-the-counter product could be unsafe."
Hummm, she did not think an over-the-counter product could be unsafe.
Now that is a sad statement.
I'm sorry for their loss.
But I'm not interested in hearing about an exception that will be taken to the height of folly.
What say we talk about the thousands of lives taken every year by overdosing on head ache medicines?
