Re: WhiteIris
Hi,
after joining curezone, i am surprised you would want to go the traditional MD school route. as you can see, pharmacology is not a solution. surgeries many times make the matters worse. If you incorpporate too many natural things into your practice, you will lose your lisence. also insurance co's and hmo's are making it impossible for doctors to make what they once did.
if you can score well on the MCAT then you will be able to do well in school. you will not sleep very much, because the coursework is very dense. reading a thousand or less pages a night, may not seem too bad. the thing is, it is almost like another language for the first year or two. its just a lot new research and you have to know the scientific concepts very well to grasp the new stuff. there really isn't much time to review old college stuff, although you may force yourself to squeeze it in. finding good study partners is key. atleast someone may know something you do not and can help clarify it. a lot of the time is spent trying to figure out what all these new facts mean, what is the point? ultimately, there is not a lot of time to memorize, so you should review everything briefly everyday. reading before and after each class will help a lot. some exams can be 3 hours long, if there is a lab it can be all day. but that is just part of their idea of what makes a good doctor. old exams did not help us much, they have a way of changing things around. It is very different than College. The things i did to survive college did not work in med school, so in the first semester you re-invent your study habits completely.
If you are studious, skilled in test taking, healthy, dedicated, and love
Science you will be perfect for it. You should have some research under your belt before you go and some statistics and calculus. Speed reading courses may help too. Just try to stay positive, exercise, and eat healthy(some students gained 20-50 lbs). That goes a long way to keeping you sane and bringing you to graduation.
Wish you good luck,
Gracey
