What bit me?
I have never had allergic reactions to bug bites. When I would get bitten over the summer the bites (mosquito/ spider etc.) would not itch very much and would be gone within 3 days. I woke up yesterday and had seen a small bump that started to itch, I got some bug bite cream and rubbed it on throughout the day. As the day passed, the area began to swell up. The cream didn’t seem to help. Later that night my leg started to tingle as it were going numb (mildly numb nothing too serious) and the muscles in the area by the bug bite began to stiffen. It would hurt mildly as I extended the leg, this is when I thought ‘that’s not good.’
I stopped using the cream thinking it had an opposite effect on me and decided to take a Benadryl tablet. While I was trying to sleep, the leg was hurting with every motion and I didn’t get much sleep. About half way through the night, I began to shiver as if I had a fever. I sweat out just like a fever (it happened twice in that night). The next day I was feeling better, the swelling had come down but I had some muscle pain in the upper thigh area. It felt like muscle bruising but there was no bruise (This might have had nothing to do with the bite though).
I started searching for symptoms and found two spiders that would cause similar symptoms (muscle cramps (although mine were very minor), chills, fever, muscle pain). The two spiders were a Black Widow and a Brown Recluse. The only problem is that although I have some of the symptoms, my bite looks nothing like that of a Black Widow or Brown Recluse. My bite has a red swelling spot (about 5” by 3” not a perfect oval and the bite is not in the middle of the swelling but on the upper part), very faded red where the skin feels tighter. The bite area is small, about ½ cm, where the area is a darker red and in the very middle is a small white dot/cap.
I have never been allergic before but that doesn’t mean that I couldn’t have developed an allergy now. If anyone knows anything about my bite please give me some info.
