Re: Poison from China
We have a Chinese owned cultural center in town that has a HUGE Chinese grocery.
Forget about reading labels if you cannot read the language.
Quite fascinating and always packed/busy, especially the huge wall of live seafood tanks, and the butcher counters... pick your fish or section of beef/pork/etc... butchered to order right in front of you. Sea vegetables are stacked on end caps from one end of the store to the other facing these meat counters.
I would suspect most of it is exactly what they eat in China, manufacturers, labels and all, with the exception of the perishables; and even then during season, one can find some of these too.
My wife will not go in there due to the fish smell AND the sight of the butcher counters... an open market of sorts, but it is quite the cultural experience.
I believe you are right about the impending ecological disaster. But then, every rapidly developing country has taken their turn at contributing to the global toxic load in turn in the name of economic growth.
