As long as the beam isn't too powerful you should get results on hair and skin. If the laser is too powerful you get this sunburn type of look if you overdo it. Perhaps that is what the asthetician meant. It doesn't take much more than 5-10mw for biostimulation. Some of these skin clinics use 1000mw+ lasers for skin issues, way too powerful! I like 635nm a bit better than 650-670nm as it seems to reach/stimulate more chromofores in the skin. I had a 650nm laser and noticed a difference. The www.erchonia.com lasers use 635nm so that's what I chose this wavelength. 635nm is 3x more expensive to build than 650nm so not many laser companies use it.
