Re: Candida Treatment
Probiotics are the live, active cultures found in yogurt and kefir like Lactobacillus bulgaricus and Streptotoccus thermophilus. I found this to be the most effective treatment for Candida. If you have advanced, overgrown candida, it probably won't be enough to eat yogurt. The average cup of yogurt contains approx. 1 million live active cells. You can buy something at the supermarket from Dannon called Activa which has more but I use a product from Canada called BioK+ which contains 50 Billion live active cultures in each small package and is very easy to drink (tastes good!)
I went on the Candida diet for only 45 days -- no
Sugar (including fruit), no alcohol, no yeast, no cheese (mold), no mushrooms. I also had no dairy, no gluten, no wheat and no caffeine. What I added to my diet was Pau de Arco Tea (a natural mold retardant), a multivitamin and a Vitamin C supplement.
In addition to the pain in my lower abdominal area going away as well as the flatulence and nausea, I was pleasantly surprised to notice that I no longer suffered from allergies to pet dander as well as a few aches and pains that I attributed to age dissappearing. My eyes are also whiter and my skin is clearer.
I did experience the Candida "die-off" effect for a few days and it was terrible. I'm continuing with Probiotics and now that I have some fruit back in my diet, I often put the BioK+ in my smoothies.
