The problem with that reference is that it does not mention the fact that it was the use of Nightshade leaf Tea (as in the Tobacco) is part of why we have some of the modern blights - particularly when used in the food garden - it was simply used too much. But yes, done sparingly as last resort, one has to do whats got to be done.
In fact, when Tobacco first went to Northern Europe {via Cavendish}, it was not used for smoking...
