Furry, sticky green beans?

Hello all,

I have just picked my first green beans from my vegetable garden and they feel furry and sticky - any idea why? And what would be the best way to wash them before eating them? I have heard that one should soak all veges/fruits etc. in some vinegar water - does that help to kill off any bugs or bug eggs?
