Filling Replacement Material Question
Torrie,
Do you know anything about "Heliomolar HB" from Ivoclar? I just postponed my amalgam replacement by a biologic dentist because I found out he was using it, and the company website boasts that one of its advantages is a "continuous release of flouride." The amalgams actually leach flouride into the body all the time, from the chemical "ytterbiumtrifluoride" (see ingredients below).
I also found info from some alternative sites saying to stay away from this stuff, that it does leach, etc...
The dentist didnt even know this, but then told me that almost all of the composite materials had some flouride, and that it was so minimal that it was irrelevant. If it is so minute, then why is it listed by the manufacturer as one of its top advantages??? The other top biologic dentist in my state also uses this stuff as his first choice.
The doctors office had diamondlite, but said it was not as durable as heliomolar hb, and when I asked they said that diamondcrown was only for crowns.
Paste of dimethacrylates, copolymer, silicondioxide,
ytterbiumtrifluoride, catalysts, stabilizers and pigments
Hazardous components
< 11 % Bis-GMA
< 5 % Decamethylendimethacrylate
< 8 % Urethanedimethacrylate
I was disappointed that the dentist didnt even know about the flouride, and by the lack of information he provided on his methods, and how unconcerned he seemed about the 2 amalgams in my mouth anyhow. He was much more interested in selling me a $3,000 appliance to widen my mouth, and correct my slight overbite.
I cancelled my replacement appointment the day of, until I can get better info. The last thing I want is something continuously putting flouride into my body for the next 20 years.
