Fun with cholesterol facts.
Consensus Mind is terminology I came up with to describe what happens when a society embraces “facts” generally given by well meaning leaders or “professionals” in a given field.
Unfortunately the “facts” turn out to be wrong.
The damage has been done however.
The society as a whole embraces these facts and catch phrases come about as well as products that use the “facts”.
Like a large ship of high tonnage, turning around takes a lot of effort. A hell of a lot of effort.
Years ago “fat” came under the scrutiny of Consensus Mind and became “bad”.
The studies that this came from were both flawed and limited in a narrow scope of understanding.
Yet still today, due to Consensus Mind, people believe a “low fat” diet is good for you.
Yet, do not understand that good fats, in a fairly good amount, are required by the body.
They still believe that “bad” fat causes high TC levels as high LDL (the BAD fat) levels.
In fact however ingested bad fats elevate “bad” cholesterol levels only slightly when compared to how much bad fat the body can produce.
That high TC levels cause heart disease and is the leading cause of heart problems.
Neither of which is true.
Yet, how many spouses hear “You’re eating too much fat, you’ll have a heart attack”.
This is true by the way. Indirectly that is.
A heart attack on Monday or Tuesday may indeed have been caused by an unusually heavy and rich meal on the weekend.
Didn’t have a damn thing to do with fat intake.
Other than an appropriate amount of good fat hadn’t been on their list for daily intake for a very long time.
Which would have “protected” them from the bad fat.
Putting on fat in most cases is due to the over consumption of carbs, not fat.
High triglyceride levels usually indicate too much of the diet is refined carbs.
My wife has a TC level of around 300.
Over the last couple of years two different medical doctors, upon looking at the blood tests, wanted to immediately put her on cholesterol lowering drugs.
(Which by the way, you should never ever take)
She would then say “But my husband says my HDL levels....”
They then LOOKED at the TC breakdown and see an HDL level of ~120 and righteously announce.
“You don’t have to worry about heart problems”
Wow, I don’t understand that!
Two medical doctors saying that a high TC of 300 isn’t a problem.
Who would’ve guessed they could be that smart?
Though they did have to be told to LOOK at the damn tests.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this bit of diatribe.
If you want a better understanding of cholesterol:
Dr Rath has a free ebook:

This is one of the few places where you’ll find out that if you have cholesterol buildup in the arteries.
And you start doing the “correct” things to repair the arteries.
Your TC levels will increase and will remain so until the repair is finished.
(What’s happening is the bad cholesterol is being removed from the arteries, thus increasing it in the bood serum)
How many times have you heard people doing something that “should” have worked but their TC levels increased.
Oh yeah, the doctor immediately wanted to then put them on drugs.
If it was the “correct” thing it would have eventually decreased.
To your good health.
