Cured, I hope
Hi ladies,
After several years of this disgusting problem, I have finally had a couple of BV free weeks. After reading the PubMed article last year, which has also been posted below, I decided to give the hydrogen peroxide cure a go.
It said in the article to give it 10 days. After 7 days, the smell came back, but I persevered on, and after the 10 days, it was erased totally.
I used a turkey baster, filled it, inserted while in the bathtub, after my bath and running out the water. I left it in the 3 minutes, while holding my legs up (like if you're at the doctor, with your legs in the stirrups, except higher). I also used my vaginal muscles to contract, and hold as much of it in as possible. Then I let it run out, and just rinsed with water lightly.
After the 7 days, I reduced the amount, after reading one of the posters' post below about using a syringe. I agreed that it's not good to over-use any liquids, so I reduced the amount to about half, and only left it in about 2 minutes.
I had tried it once before, and gave up, because it was burning a bit. I think reducing the amount, and maybe a little bit shorter time would cut down on the burning. During that first time, I really noticed MUCH less smell. I really believe that leaving it in for at least 2 minutes gives the peroxide time to work. Also, I believe that I would have to start again if I miss a day.
This second time I really had no discomfort. Now I feel no burning or irritation, and have no smell whatsoever. And, I did have it chronically; perhaps not as bad as some of the stories I have read, but definite fishy smell coming back again and again. I was using various products to keep the smell down.
Also, I was using probiotics. I had tried them alone, and it wasn't doing the trick. I was using PB8 from the health food store, refrigerated, 8 strains of bacteria. I was using them in the morning, and before bed, and before every meal, as another poster had mentioned. After several days into the peroxide treatment, I cut down that amount, too, to just a couple in the morning. I'm still doing that; also I eat plain yogurt when I can.
Thanks to all for their advice. All the suggestions really helped. I feel if it comes back, at least I have a chance to work on it again.
Hope this helps someone else.
