Does anyone know how taking Iodine would impact Hashimoto's thyroiditis?

I've been told it is incurable, which I have never believed. (I do not wish to take Synthroid for even one day longer than is absolutely necessary.)

Based on what I am understanding, it seems like Iodine would "cure" it.

Any thoughts or experience with this?
