I had a Hamilton Beach juicer (my first juicer) and it started making that burning smell too. I'd return it - my juicer did that so I took the metal mesh part off and saw that it was actually ripping in the machine (the burning smell) and consequently I was getting little black bits from the mesh in the juice.

Your juicer should NEVER emit a burning smell or make funny noises.
