new to forum... couple questions

i just started making Colloidal Silver . my adapter puts out 20v dc. i got real baking soda from the organic store... Do i add baking soda when making cs? Is it normal for 1 silver rod to have "ash" on it? I shine a lasor pointer thru my cs-what should i see?
