well, seeing as the penis is often getting hard during the night, rubbing fabric, clothing, etc, healing can be difficult. A cut on the penis will often take longer to heal than a cut in a "less dynamic" place on the body.

And not to be offensive or anything, but DUDE! GET TESTED!!

There are far worse things than Herpes, like Syphillis. After a certain stage, syphillis cannot be cured and will kill you.

Goto a free clinic and get tested for HSV, HPV, Syphillis, HIV, etc. HSV and HPV will be cost more (not free). Not all places test HPV for men, but it can be done.

Again... DUDE! GET TESTED!
