The Cost of Health

Yesterday I ordered the "big" basket from Country Baskets and Spices. It was $500 and quite a bargain in my opinion. I was telling my aunt about it. She commented that I've been spending quite a lot on herbal products lately and that health was expensive. I said, "Yes, but sickness is even more expensive." She had never thought of that.

As if to punctuate my belief, yesterday we received the bill from the hospital for David's 3-day stay. It was over $8,400 and doesn't include the doctor's bill. The pharmacy cost alone was $1,700. I can buy a lot of herbs for that amount of money!

Yes, they got his BP under control, but at what expense? The medication caused him to have slurred speech which scared me half to death. They immediately discontinued that drug. The other drugs, Norvasc, Minoxidil, and Clonidine have horrendous side effects, and David is experiencing every one of them, even the ones that contradict each other. For example, extreme fatigue and sleepiness vs. insomnia. He can't stay awake during the day but can't sleep at night.

So, if you think $149 is too much to pay for a book that can show you how to inexpensively restore your health, or $108 is a lot to pay for a membership to a site that provides that book for free plus an enormous amount of information to help you retain or maintain your health, think about what it would cost you to have a 3-day stay in a hospital only to come out even sicker than you were when you went in. It really puts the cost of health into perspective.
