Filtering is OK but my preference is to let the stuff settle and decant. Why? Because filters often are treated with chemicals in the manufacturing process and you don't want your cs to react with any of that. If you prefer to use a filter I would take a bowl filled with distilled water and dip the filter in the water and ring it out several times to get rid of any trace chemicals then filter your cs through that. Decanting is best though.
