Mirena just fell out!!
I wanted to share this frightning experience just in case anyone else has something similar. I had Mirena inserted back in June of 2006. The first 3 months were anything but normal. I would have light spotting and cramping all the time, and then it finally slowed down. Still, I would only go two weeks max without spotting for several days at a time. Then, Jan 5th I started spotting again, but this time It got heavier, this went on for seven days or more, much heavier than I was use too. I finally told my husband that if it didn't slow down, I was going to call my doctor on Monday (this was Friday). I never got that chance. At 3am Saturday I woke up and realized that I had bled thru my clothes, something that I haven't done since my teen years. I went to the bathroom and when I sat down on the toilet, this huge amount of blood and tissue just fell out. It startled me so badly that I stood up and turned around to see, and there was this small piece of the IUD that I can see all bound in this tissue. I retrieved it and cleaned it off. It was fully intact with the string and everything, but it looked like it took half my insides with it!
I called my OBGYN and by the time they called me back the bleeding had slowed down, they told me if it increased then I needed to go to the ER (I was out of town of course). I passed huge blood clots and bled really heavy until I went to my doctors office on Tuesday. He examined me and withing 30 seconds said "this is not normal bleeding from a period"..He tried to do an ultrasound to see where the bleeding was coming from, but there was so much blood and so many clots in the uterus that he couldnt tell anything. I had to go in the hospital on Thursday for a D&C with a hysterescope, just to find out where I was bleeding from.
To finish this story.. my post-op appointment is tomorrow.. They had to examine a polyp that was removed to see if it may be cancerous, they were fairly certain it was not, but had to check anyway. Before I had Mirena IUD, I had a period every 28 days, never a polyp or an abnormal pap smear, a clear as a bell uterus and everything else, and now.. It appears to me that this thing did some major damage in six months that I can only pray is reversable! I know some people get the IUD and it works well for them, but If your body tells you for months that it doesn't like something, maybe we should listen and not ignore it! I wish I would have not ignored it.
Does anyone know if the maker of the Mirena issues refunds for faulty IUD's or complications caused from IUD's? I paid almost $700 and only had it for 6 painful months!
