Book describes too-LOW estrogen as one cause for chemical sensitivity
With all of the rhetoric in alternative medicine about too much estrogen in the environment, you'd think not enough estrogen wouldn't be a concern for women before menopause. Well, the doctor who wrote the book "It's my Ovaries, Stupid" (see Amazon.com for description of the book and author), states that in the thousands of women she has seen as patients in her clinic, some had not enough estradiol for their age groups, and a symptom they had with that was extreme sensitivity to chemicals, perfumes, and smells.
Of course she does not say this is always the cause for MCS, just that for those women with not enough estradiol for their age, it was an issue.
If you are female, please consider that all of the "estrogen is always bad" info out there, both from alternative med and main stream med sources, does NOT apply if you happen to be one of those whose estradiol is actually too low for your age group.
There are several companies who offer saliva testing through the mail, without doctor's note needed, to at least get an idea of how your estradiol level is for you age group (they also test other hormones).
