Herpes Simplex Virus - confusion - please help.

These are the exact words i recieved in letter from my doctor...

'Your blood test for Herpea Simplex Virus is positive. This means that you are infected by HSV in the past'.

My questions are.....

Does this mean it is the HSV -2 ? Which i believe is sexually transmited.

Or

Does this mean it is the HSV -1 ? Which im led to believe is orally transmitted.

If its HSV 2 (but the letter simply states HSV) does this mean i need to wear condoms for the rest of my life to avoid affecting any girl im having sex with ?

Yep - im confused, a little scared (though not petrified as what can i do other than get on with it) and just want some clarification on what having HSV means ?

I certainly dont want to pass it on to someone and thats one reason i need clarification on this.

Any words of wisdom would be recieved with warmth....
