my father had a operation for his back

My father never tells me to worry, But i don't trust what he is saying. He had a operation 3 years ago. They coudln't operate him from his back so they went from the throath.

I heared a friend of him saying they put something on his spine? or elsewhere to hold something?? I really don't know

i was wondering if anyone knows what that is, anything familiar. And are there any alternavitve therpay's so he can cure or decrease his pain?
