How about taking turmeric internally as a supplement? It is anti-inflammatory. You might ask hopinso about this, I believe she has used it before. Anyway, it's just food and very safe - may help with her shingles recovery, too. Just an idea.
Also, eating fresh pineapple - the bromelain is supposed to be anti-inflammatory, too.
