Re: Hate Speech Laws- A New Cross for Christians to Bear
I use homosexuality to attack Christianity, not because I think everyone should abandon their families and go Brokeback, but because, for years, the Republican party and the Christians who supported them felt that the best use of our country's legisature, when not enacting violations of the Constitution or bringing us closer to their Rapture, was to argue about whether or not gays should be allowed to marry each other. It's a very important topic to fundamentalist, evangelical, holier-than-thou born-again hypocrite Christians.
If something else was on the collective Christian mind right now, I'd be using that, instead. But murder and mayhem are irrelevant -- every bit of carnage is just one step closer to Jesus's arrival, as far as they're concerned, so they do nothing to stop it. Homosexuality, on the other hand... well, there's not much they can do to stop it, but they can certainly make a stink about it and do their blessed darnedest to treat gays like fourth-class citizens.
If there's some other topic which is as dear and odious to Christians, please name it.
