Re: 'No proof' organic food is better
21716, I personally feel TRUE organic produce is better, but one has to make up thier own mind as well as use discernment . Some major publicly traded corporations are jumping on the 'organic' bandwagon and labeling things organic, so I would question the truth of those labels. Don't forget that the FDA loves to loosen the label standards and create loopholes for their corporate $$ buddies.
My sister ate some "organic" bagged lettuce made from a major food corporation Giant we all know. The bag said it was not necessary to wash, so she didnt wash it. Her lips and throat swelled up after eating this so called "organic" lettuce. They obviously still spray the lettuce before they bag it! Sure, maybe it was grown organic, but those who care if thier produce is organic also DO NOT WANT CHEMICAL PESTICIDES in their bodies , either!
TRUE organic involves non-gassed freshly ripe vegetables and fruits that are grown through organic pest control methods, instead of via chemical pesticide cop-out methods.
If you are familiar with Rodale Farms in Pa., back in the 1990's, they trained students on how to organically grow crops using totally natural organic methods. I walked through these test gardens, and noticed how lush the crops were. Not only did they use certain herbs and plants around the crops for their natural pest control attributes, but they incorporated ladybugs, praying mantis's and encouraged the habitat of other farm friendly bugs that are enemies to many of the pests that eat crops.
We were very inspired to say the least. Mega Corporate farming will never bother to research these methods used by the Rodale farms just as the auto industry and governments are indifferent in finding alternative fuel methods.
Vegetables and fruits that are not gassed, and allowed to ripen naturally have more nutrients in them-- they should be purchased quickly and eaten quickly-- as it should be with any vegetation you eat, or fresh juice you drink. We have these plastic containers that have nano-particles of silver in them to naturally control spoilage- that we bought from Sharper Image. They really do work!, so we use them to temporarily store garden fruits during the Summer. Perhaps Truckers could use containers like these to ship organic produce -to elminate further spraying.
Pesticides may not directly lessen the nutrient content, but they add unnecessary toxins in the human body that the liver has to work overtime cleaning out.
I use a bio-degradable veggie wash and notice how grey the water gets after cleaning out non-organic lettuce or berries. Alot of pesticides are oil based so, merely washing with a veggie wash won't get all of it out.
I ate a sprayed apple once-- just rinsed it with plain tap water, then ate it. I tasted a chemical taste next to the stem area and then my lips puffed out. This was an allergic reaction to the chemical pesticide spray. Now I make sure to wash all apples with veggie wash, and cut off the tops and bottoms before eating. I have no further problem when doing that.
