Am I safe?

A year and a half ago I was taken advantage of by a close guy friend. Later I've had itching around the inner hairline of my vagina. I went to the doctor and got tested for everything and they came back negative, this was after 4 months. He gave me some cream and the itching comes and goes, but it's still there. I went back and he once again said everything was fine. I have no sores just itching and its not like super bad, just mainly in the morning and night and its just a little irritating. I asked the guy and he said he's clean. Why am I still experiencing itching? Could it actually be herpes and it didn't show up on the test? Or could it be from me being paranoid? Or does soap cause it, cause I use dove which is supposed to be mild. Help! I'm freaking out. I swear every little thing on me that itches now is the herpes spreading, which I dont' even know if i have.
