you can actually build a good ammount of mass with quality instead of quanity as well as being carefull with your meal timing.Protein before bed,carbs after a workout, protein shakes throughout the day.I used to think i needed 6000 calories a day to gain weight,well you do if you want sheer mass and it does work.But after that you still have to maintain the weight,fortunantly it's easier to maintain then it is to gain.Me personally,i eat really little but i eat of quality so i still maintain alot of my mass and strength.Plenty of protein,fats,veggies and some carbs.
and of course,the warrior diet.You can actually gain pretty well with only the pre-workout meal,postworkout meal and one right before bed.For a gaining diet,this works because it gives fuel for the workout,recovery and anti-catabolism (before bed)
this is actually modest compared to most bulking routines out there.
