Vitamin A Toxicity/problems
Hi Moreless (or anyone who knows),
I have been jaundiced to varying degrees for a couple of years now. However, all the (standard) liver tests have been normal. I realize, tho, that these tests don't actually test for liver function per se, but rather more like liver damage. I have detox issue, and my doc suspects I have a genetic liver defect. I have an pappt. with liver specialist in 3 weeks. There are tests I can take to pinpoint exactly where a genetic defect is, but they are $400 and non-reimbursable, so I have to wait a little while until holiday expenses are over with. Meanwhile, we thought it might be that I have an overload of vitamin A and/or an inability to convert beta carotene to A. I realized after looking over my regime, that I have been steadily getting way more A than the adult requirement (which is 8,000 iu/day, and I have been getting over 60,000/day!) because not only has it been in my veggies, it was also in my multi, my Sun Chlorella and Wellness Formula. And I had been taking all this steadily over past 2-3 years. So, I went off all those supps 3 weeks ago, and have been avoiding overtly orange veggies, and darn if that jaundice isn't fading! That is the good news. But, ever since I dropped all those things, I have been experiencing what I think is a detox side effect, in that my nose is running and the stuff must be rather caustic as my nose is very sore and blistery, and it spreads to the area between my lips and nose. My question is, DOES this sound like a detox reaction to you guys? I am thinking perhaps other stuff (metals?) may also be detoxing out along with the excess vitamin A. I am thrilled that the jaundice is leaving as it has been a mystery to me and my doc for a long time now, but this nose thing is painful! This is the last health issue I seem to have now (this liver/jaundice/nose thing) - everything else, including food allergies and candida issues, seem to be history at this point - yay!
Thanks!
