EFA basics

Essential Fatty Acids Fall into two main groups, the Omega-3 alpha linoleic-acid and the Omega-6 linoleic-acid. There are other fatty-acids, but we will discuss the Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty-acids. These are the essential fatty-acids.
The reason linoleic (Omega-6) and alpha-linoleic-acid (Omega-3) fatty acids are essential is because the body can not synthesize them from other fatty acids, so we must get them from the food we eat in order to have good health.
Omega-6 and GLA
Omega-6 is the fatty-acid found in most vegetables oils, including sunflower, safflower and corn oil.
Omega-6 is converted in the body into another fatty-acid called Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA). Gamma Linolenic Acid (GLA): a natural hormone balancer.
The primary source of Omega-3 oil is fish liver oil. Omega-3 oil can help prevent the production of arachidonic acid, which suppresses the immune system.
Flax seed oil has the proper balance of Omega-3 and Omega-6 Essential Fatty Acids.

EFA Facts :
1.The prostate and uterus take part in processing fats
2.Low fat diets increase blood cholesterollevels because the main use of cholesterol is to make bile to digest fats, low fat diet = no need for much bile = to much cholesterol in the blood
3. Not enough EFAs lowers resistance to infection
4. Insufficient EFAs can cause liver damage, infertility in males, lack of motor skills, and joint problems
5. Lactose intolerance can be caused by Insufficient amounts of EFAs
