My Mirena Experience

Hi! I am new to this thread. I am glad I found this. I have had Mirena since 2004, I am 32. The only positive side effect, is that I stopped having periods after 5 months it was put it. Otherwise, I can't stand it! I've gained 20 pounds, have no sex drive, (why even bother having birth control in the first place, then!), I have mood swings, fatigue, suffer depression, I am irritable, I have a short memory span, I can't think clearly, (somedays I walk around like my head is in a fog), my husband says living with me is like living with a woman who has pms, everyday! I just feel horrible. So, today I go to my ob and am having it removed. I am not looking forward to some of the side effects that some of you have had since having it removed,- but if it means feeling like my old self again, then its worth it. My ob never explained the negative side effects, either. Had I known, I never would have had it put in. I am very disappointed with the way doctors treat us women. We should be made clear about the side effects we may suffer due to things like these. I am not sure what route I will take after having Mirena taken out. I may need some anti-depressants, just to get through the changes I may experience. What do you all think? Has anyone had to turn to medication for any Depression related to Mirena removal? Thanks!
